Puget Sound Goat Rescue

AllegraGoats are wonderful and rewarding pets. They are intelligent, curious, fun, and easy to care for. They can provide you years of entertainment and affection. They can be so affectionate and playful. They love to be brushed and petted and will follow you around like dogs. They make absolutely wonderful barnyard pets! There are several key things to understand about goats before taking on the responsibility of goat ownership: fencing/shelter; feed; companionship; and routine maintenance. Please see our Frequently Asked Questions section for more information.

Puget Sound Goat Rescue has certain policies listed below that must be adhered to before we will adopt out our rescued goats. 99% of our goats have been rescued from auctions or slaughterhouses where they were being sold for meat. Many have had a rough road in life and our goal is to provide them, and ALL rescued goats, permanent homes where they are safe, healthy and happy. Thank you for caring!

Our Mission

Puget Sound Goat Rescue is dedicated to the happiness and well being of tame goats. Run by Barbara Jamison for more than 9 years, Puget Sound Goat Rescue has rescued, rehabilitated  and adopted out more than 900 goats from slaughterhouses, auctions, and abusive situations. We also strive to educate the public about goats and their care and to dispel many inaccurate assumptions about them. Such as:

  • Goats CANNOT eat anything (ie: tin cans, potted plants, dirty contaminated hay). They have very complex and sensitive digestive systems and will not eat dirty hay unless they are starving. In our experience, next to dog attacks--feeding goats the wrong thing is the most prevalent cause of death.
  • Goats do NOT smell (bucks in rut are the exception) Neutered male goats make great pets!
  • Goats do not typically headbutt people--they like to bang heads with each other but by nature--they are gentle and non aggressive. The exceptions are occassionaly bucks in rut or goats that have been conditioned to play that way by people
  • Goats do NOT bite--they are curious and may nibble a bit on clothing but --again--they are gentle by nature and are not biters
